The Odyssey by Homer
3.0
I want to start out by saying that I feel like I would have enjoyed the book more if I chose to read it for pleasure instead of having to read it for school. Normally that ruins a book when reading it for a school project!
I felt that out of the whole book, the middle was the most interesting and exciting. I felt that the beginning was a bit unnecessary. When I reached the part where it was from Odysseus' point of view, I felt like the story became overall better. The ending was just okay, but I wasn't a huge fan of the scenes with the suitors.
The writing style was a bit hard to get used to, and I found myself having to think about who was speaking and the meaning of what was being said. Finally, I did get confused trying to keep a bunch of the characters straight.
Once you get past those things, the story was good, and was a story of survival. I did like the greek mythology aspects of it, and the different creatures like the cyclops and the sirens.
Overall I liked it, but I wasn't a huge fan of the way it was written.
