One day people will stop doing this book dirty by calling it Lord of the Flies but with girls. It's not and frankly it's borderline insulting to Wilder Girls to compare it to a bunch of bratty little rich white boys who can't behave themselves for fifteen minutes.
Power's prose is fantastic. Not too flowery, not too barren. She manages to make some truly horrific body horror come across as almost normal. Mundane, even. And while the wlw couple isn't exactly the primary point of this book there's just enough very realistic touches to make me care.
Do I wish this book was maybe a tiny bit longer? Absolutely. Do I wish we got to hear a bit more about the other girls? Yes. It's a stylistic choice that I can respect, but damned if it's not going to be controversial.
All in all I'm still very satisfied by my experience and I'm so excited to see what else Rory Power ends up doing in her career.
