Knights of Sidonia, Volume 3 by Tsutomu Nihei
Did not finish book. Stopped at 40%.
Hmm, this is strangely disappointing. Biomega and Blame! are two of my favorite manga ever, so I expected to enjoy Sidonia as well since it's his most popular series.
I had heard whisperings that there's fan service for some ungodly reason when he's never really leaned into that, and in general the story isn't as engaging for me.
My biggest disappointment I think is that I can tell he's starting to cut corners. I've seen panels from the later volumes that show he's putting less effort into the art itself, which makes me sad. I suspect deadlines/overwork.
The reason I love his other two series so much is how much that degree in architecture shines. Man knows how to create a labyrinthian futuristic hellscape. There are glimpses in this, but it's sort of lacking. Idk, maybe I'll try again at a later date, but it's not grabbing me.
