The Comeback by Lily Chu

4.0

I picked this up because I enjoyed Chu's first book, [b:The Stand-In|58341799|The Stand-In|Lily Chu|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1623692228l/58341799._SX50_.jpg|91480203], very much, and both were included in my Audible subscription. The audiobook narrator is the same, and she does a great job of giving the characters different voices and attitudes without every being over the top. I think this book really showed Chu growing as an author - The Comeback felt a lot longer, and spent a lot of time with a wider variety of issues beyond the typical romance and stardom tropes. Particularly I was interested in the racism that the main character faced in her workplace, although I was disappointed that she didn't get much of a "stick it to the boss" moment (her coworkers definitely never had to confront their racism). I actually learned a lot about KPop and I liked how Ariadne came to realize the meaning and artistry behind "just" pop music. Absolutely recommend, and not just because it's free on Audible.
