A winding, thoughtful mystery for a brooding mood. I didn’t find the crime particularly realistic, but I didn’t mind. The book paints a compelling portrait of a wide circle of affected people. More literary-feeling than many mysteries, it’s a depressing story. Still, thankfully (to my mind) it avoids being too hopeless or horrifying.
