Paved Paradise: How Parking Explains the World by Henry Grabar

informative reflective medium-paced

3.5

As a transportation engineer, this subject is totally my jam.  Overall I liked this book, and I appreciated the case studies Grabar presented.  I found this very USA-centric, which wasn't unexpected (or unwarranted), but I was hoping for more insight regarding global parking practices and solutions.  I was disappointed that there were no examples or discussion about parking structures purpose-built to be converted to other uses in the future as parking needs change (i.e. 'Platform' parkade in Calgary, Alberta).  I also wanted more regarding how autonomous cars will impact future parking demand, but perhaps that's another book altogether.
