All the Right Notes by Dominic Lim

5.0

I received a copy of All the Right Notes by Dominic Lim from Forever in exchange for an honest review.

In All the Right Notes, we jump back and forth between Then and Now through Quito's perspective. It's been many years since he first met Emmett Aoki in high school at their high school. Quito is now a piano player and composter in New York City - but he's been having trouble composing his own songs since Emmett. But now Quito's dad, his high school choir teacher, wants Quito to return to help put on a charity performance coinciding with his retirement. The thing is - he wants Quito to enlist Emmett to return to their hometown as well. Emmett, who is now one of the hottest celebrities in Hollywood, and whom Quito has not spoken to in years. As Quito and Emmett reunite, and Quito finds himself home with his father and confronted with the past, he may actually finally be able to move forward with his life.

I really, really enjoyed this story. It was filled with heart, music, and love. I really liked seeing how the relationship between Quito and Emmett developed - as well as the reveal of what led these two friends to stop talking for years. One of my favourite characters in this story has to be Quito's dad. His interactions with Quito, with Emmett, with Ujima - with everyone in this story just felt so wholesome. Just like its name, this book really did hit "all the right notes" for me.
