Ah yes, another classic Danielle Steel book. She has a naive main character, Isabelle, who is a mom with three kids. The men, well except one, are losers, criminals, and deadbeats to put it super nicely. Her kids either adore their mom or have huge problems with her. I can ignore all that as I’m used to that when it comes to some Danielle Steel books but there is one thing this book did that frustrated me a bit when I was reading this book.

Toward the last 25% of the book, it got a little bit preachy about God. Christianity has been in DS’ novel before. One of my favorite books of hers involved a nun who became part of the Resistance in World War II. I have no problems with her characters being Christian at all. But this felt off to me. Isabelle’s assistant turns her and her daughter to a preacher who reminded me of Joel Osteen. The vibes felt wrong with this whole thing. It gave very much mega-church vibes and I was not here for that at all.

I also wasn't a fan of the men introduced in this book. One got away with being an absent parent, another was a criminal and one passed away so we never got to know him. It just seemed kind of eh. DS is known for having not great men in her book. This time it seemed like too much. Isabelle was mad at them for a brief moment and then just forgot about it. Especially the one that was a deadbeat. He paid child support and made the monetary contributions but he only saw his kid once a year. And Isabelle was completely okay with this. I’m sorry but that is certainly not okay.

It sounds like I’m complaining about the book and that I didn’t like the book, which is not true. I did enjoy the book quite a bit. It was an easy book to devour. It kept my attention and it helped me get out of a book slump. Overall, I would recommend this book if you need a good book that is easy to read compared to other books.
