Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

WAIT I ACTUALLY REALLY LIKED THAT ENDING

This book was a bit boring at the beginning, and it took me a while to really get into it, but man the ending was really good! There's a cliffhanger on all three perspectives, and I was expecting the climax to fall flat because of the way it was built up, but it was actually really well done.

About the plot/storyline itself, it wasn't the most original but obviously that's fine, as I think the author was able to execute it well enough. I liked the connection the author had between the three perspectives. Katherine felt a bit more disconnected from the other perspectives but I also feel like she was more distanced in the story anyway. I like how Arsione's perspective had different subplots but also crafted her personality well. Mirabella had a lot more revealing details going for her, but she also had "everything" compared to her sisters. I really liked how Mirabella gives an outside perspective on her sisters, and to be honest, the author does a great job of crafting the story so I could never exactly pinpoint who I thought would win.

As I mentioned, the beginning was kind of boring and I did forget a few details from the start so oops. But, the ending was wayyyyy better! I had a bunch of "gasp" moments and literally could not put it down.

I also want to talk about the ✨characters✨. I actually kind of liked Natalia, especially at the end - she was interesting to contrast with the other people raising the queens. Joseph. JOSEPH. Joseph is an absolute poop head. He had such a promising start but whatever. Jules was a nice character to have, and she added a nice subplot! I do wonder if she will have a bigger/more important presence later in the series, as I feel like she was kind of only there for the romance in this book. Also PIETYR OMG. I had
a bad feeling about him for a while like he just gave off suspicious vibes!!! Anyways if the author tries to redeem him later ewwww
a thiNg for his character.

Ok but overall, not too bad to kick off this series! Don't exactly love all the characters or the plot yet, but it does get better as the book goes on.
