City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

4.0

3.5

I was super iffy on this book. It wasn’t bad, but it dragged a whole lot. It could’ve easily been cut down 100 more pages. However, the ending bumped it up from a 3 to a 3.5.

The plot was great. It had splendid potential. You have the gang looking for Jace and attempting to cut down Sebastian. However, things literally did not happen until 2/3 of the way through. There was so much filler with Jordan and Maia, dawdling with Clary, Seb, and Jace, and I can’t remember anything significant with Alec, Magnus, Izzy, and Simon. I only remember the ending, which was GOOD. I enjoyed the summoning of Raziel, the usage of Glorius, and seeing the transformation Jace went through. I just feel like this book was a whole lot of filler with a sprinkling of essential action and plot.

I thought it was interesting to see Jace in an evil state, but I was also just like “Ughh” because I wanted my Jace back! We got him back in the end though, which was okay with me. I’m just hoping that Jace isn’t kidnapped or possessed next book. I might scream.

I gained tons of respect for Simon. My man showed tons of courage, while still maintaining his funny, awkward-ish personality. Go Simon! Also, we got more storyline about his Mark which was *chef’s kiss*. He had a good storyline.

Clary was fine. I wasn’t impressed, but I also didn’t hate it. It was just more Clace angst. But alas, it’s fine.

I was SO upset about Malec in the epilogue. Like, what?! I really hope they get back together.

Overall, this book had tons of filler with little essential plot, but the ending was kind of worth all the filler. Onto the last book!
