Heaven Official's Blessing: Tian Guan Ci Fu (Novel) Vol. 3 by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu
3.0
Definitely my least favourite so far.
I absolutely love the characters and their interactions. The tension between Hua Cheng and Xie Lian is still the best part of this series.
Sadly there were a few things that bothered me. This is just a personal preference, but I don't like how there is seemingly no overarching plot. Everything feels episodic. It also gets a bit boring, because the mysteries always get solved in the same way. Xie Lian gets a task, something goes wrong, Hua Cheng comes to the rescue. And because Hua Cheng is so powerful I feel like the stakes aren't high. I know once he shows up everything is resolved.
Another thing I didn't enjoy was basically the whole Xianle arc. First of all, it was way too long. I am not against flashbacks, but this one was so long that it could have been an entire book in itself. I feel like it would have been better if it was shortened and/0r broken apart. Another thing that bothered me is how it was split up. The flashback starts at the end of volume 2 and then continues into volume 3. It always feels like the volumes just end abruptly. Not only the volumes, but the mysteries in itself too. We spend a good amount of time with the fetus ghost thingy and then it doesn't even get resolved...It feels like the author is trying to much and in turn none of the plot points get resolved adequately.
Overall this whole series is disappointing so far.
