Liked this one better then Meet Cute by the same author. I appreciated the heroine’s desire to be self sufficient and her understanding of the power imbalance (however unintentional) between her and the hero. I think my biggest gripe is that it all felt a little flat. We’re told about certain aspects of Ruby’s life but never actually shown her living them (her job at the “dinner theater”.)
About halfway into the book I realized that neither of the main characters are shown interacting with anyone. Most of Ruby’s scenes are her own internal monologue. She’s recounting a event from her day but instead of the reader getting to experience it with her, we’re only given her thoughts.
I’ve noticed in both the books I’ve read by this author, the antagonist or bad guy (her friend’s fiancé in this case) are almost comically bad. All cliche with no nuance. Seems to be the case with this author. Not terrible stories, but very two dimensional with very obvious tropes and cliches.
I have another book by her on my kindle that I’ll probably read, but from now on I’ll only picking up her books for free or if they’re on sale for $1.
