Desires of a Monster by Roe Horvat
4.0
Pure unadulterated smut. Readers who enjoyed [a:Lily Mayne|21321484|Lily Mayne|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1616920587p2/21321484.jpg]'s Monstrous series would like this - same vibes. RTC.
Update 2/24:
This is hard to review because on one hand, it's just erotica as I initially mentioned. There is some semblance of a plot and a few interesting characters here, but it's basically just an excuse for constant fantasy fan fiction trope sex. In here we have classic instalove, magical healing semen/dick, size kink, virgin kink, demon with a heart of gold, and a monster/human pairing. If Horvat's writing wasn't as good as it is, this story would be absolutely ridiculous. However, because it is good, I really enjoyed this and didn't feel like I was reading garbage off of A03.
The story is set in an alternate Renaissance-type world. Reese is a sickly young adult who is an orphan and works on the docks just to feed themselves. However, his sickness is progressing and without modern medical care, he's as good as dead. Stories of the grey-skinned lord of the local estate have been whispered around him his whole life - stories of young men disappearing for weeks and then coming back with riches, vitalized health, and a dreamy gaze.
While out working one day, the Lord and his female riders come into town and the other men cower or scatter so as to avoid the lord's gaze. But Reese, with nothing to live for but still curious, meets the demon Lord's gaze defiantly. However, the Lord moves on - but Reese can't forget. The next time he spots one of the lord's female riders, alone in a tavern, Reese offers himself to her to take back to the estate. She's impressed he's not scared and agrees to take him.
This sets off the story of the lord (at this point unnamed) and Reese getting to know each other through sex and later through more "normal" means as they, of course, fall in love. There is a bit of drama because, we find out, as Reese gets healthy, the demon is losing his abilities, like they're sharing the magical vitae between them through sex and are now inexplicably linked for life, thus the ambiguous HEA.
Not my favourite of what I've read so far from Horvat and the only one based in pure fantasy, but I would still recommend it if you're a fan of their writing.
