Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier

5.0

What I Liked
I read this on the plane(s) to Kenya from the United States and fell in love with the prose, the characters, the story, the painting, all of it.

I loved Griet and how relateable she was. I felt her fear during the plague. I felt her loss when she grieved. I felt her desires and her confusion about adulthood and adolescence. And most of all, I felt her awe about painting and the artistry of Vermeer.

What I Didn't Like
Character development was probably Chevalier's weakest attribute in this novel.
