This book is giving HANDMAIDS Tale, has a small town, cultish - feel, and a case of mistaken or should I say altered identity. The towns so small that you’re always being watched, whether intentional or not.

Joan has so much going on, no one to trust and seems as if everyone around her is an informant. And, they’re all overly excited for the birth of her baby. She eventually had to pretend to survive. 🫣
People do strange things to “preserve” their bloodline. Very strange things.
And the old lady at the nursing home told Joan, never wander into the basement. She knew exactly what was going on and laughed about it. 😬 Joan then realized that everything she though of LilyDale was true.
