Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

4.0

Did Jane Austen live in Kerala/India?

Pride and Prejudice had me reeling in Deja vu the entire time i was reading it!
The constant pressure on girls to marry, the anxiety of mothers to get their girls married off (I hate that usage.), Cousins and neighbors and far off uncles hovering around you with 'you aren't getting any younger'...England in the 1800s seems to have been like the Kerala of today!

Coming from a society where arranged marriages are prided upon and love marriages shunned to the point of parents sometimes disowning their children, Pride and Prejudice struck home.
I myself know a couple of Mrs. Bennets and Mr. Collins lurking around my neighborhood.

Thank you Jane Austen for that wonderful ode to my reality! :D
