This book was so amazing, so fantastic, that it made my day super good (I read the whole thing in one day). The ending, though, that was what took the cake!
Now, let me get into the spoiler portion of this, so don’t read it if you don’t want spoilers!
So, the beginning was totally cringe worthy the entire time, since so many embarrassing things happen to poor Penny! I felt so bad for her so many times. Like, seriously, that Megan is a bitch. What kind of person uploads a video of her supposed best friend accidentally flashing 300 people? No one decent, that’s who.
Elliot was cool, except when he got all jealous of Noah and gave penny the cold shoulder for a bit. I did think he was a little stereotypical as the gay-best-friend, but it wasn’t played up too much, so I don’t think it was that big of an issue.
I really liked the whole subplot of “inciting incidents”! It was super cute that Noah called penny that, along with “autumn girl”. It made me so happy :)
But that twist though! I feel like I should have seen something coming, since there was a part of the book where penny explicitly says that both she and Noah like books with twist endings, but I was completely blindsided. Especially since it was one twist after the other!
First, we found out that Noah was actually famous. I thought that was a big enough of a twist, but then her blog became public and it looked like Elliot betrayed her! I was heartbroken until we found out it was really Megan (the mega-bitch) and Ollie. I completely loved the revenge scene! So cute and awesome.
That ending was super cute and amazing (I keep using that word, but it was!) I was happy they ended up together, because I really didn’t think they were gonna.
"But now I see myself totally different… I’ve discovered that the things I thought were ugly actually made me look like autumn- and sunsets. I don’t need to conceal my freckles with a layer of foundation anymore. I don’t need to tie my hair back to hide its redness. I can leave it down and show it off."
This part really resonated with me, though. So much so that I took a picture of the page with it on it, just so I could access it easily.
I am a teenage girl and I struggle with body image issues. I was recently told by someone that I need to work on being more confident about how I look and I need to just feel better about myself, but it’s hard. And I really think it was fate that I read this book literally the day after I was told that.
I think these are signs that I need to get on that.
Anyway, the only thing that bothered me about the book was that some of the dialogue that was coming from American’s mouths didn’t quite fit. I noted that Noah used the word “mum” once, and there were just little instances where I was like, “no, they wouldn’t use that word. They’d say… instead.” it wasn’t a big issue, but it was something that kind of bothered me the whole time.
But still, fantastic book that left me in awe! 5/5 stars, and a forever place on my favorites list. Honestly, it may be very close to the top of the list.
