Break It Up: Secession, Division, and the Secret History of America's Imperfect Union by Richard Kreitner
5.0
This is the sort of subject matter you don't realize you don't spend much time thinking about, until you read a book like this. When most people think about American secession, of course, they think of the Civil War. But the more you think about it, honestly, it's a miracle the country even made it that far! (Because I'm a history geek on a level slightly higher than the average person, I also knew about Burr's plan to start his own country).
I found this book very interesting, all encompassing and far reaching but accessible.
