The School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan

The School for Good Mothers takes to the extreme the pressure of expectation we place on mothers. Reading it was sometimes painful because it felt too real, too much like foreshadowing our new reality.

I didn’t even like Frida, the main character, at first. She made bad choices from page one. But boy did I want to fight for her, to march on Congress, put my body in the way of the buses bringing the mothers to “school” after losing custody of their children.

If you haven’t yet, read this book. Get angry. Cry over the injustice. And make sure to have a nice light cozy mystery lined up to read next.
