why did i go into this book having literally no idea that there was a murder plot that was actually a big part of the story? idk.
i went into this (and it's my fault for trusting what i'd heard) thinking it was basically just a small town romance, and lets just say i figured out that this wasn't just that pretty quickly. yes the romance is also a big plot, but because it wasn't the only thing going on, it felt like it was on the side burner sometimes.
and unfortunately, that made the romance aspect not my favourite. it was super insta-lovey (or insta-lust, i guess) but there wasn't really a great development or anything. i just wasn't really convinced that the two characters loved each other, and it was confusing me why they cared about each other so much when their relationship felt so flimsy
also, the mmc just... was so boring. i'm sorry. i liked winn well enough but griff was just so uninteresting that it also made me judge winn because like... why. also my lack of interest in griff probably contributed to my disinterest in the romance lol
i will say that i liked the mystery element, and that the next book seems promising. everyone talks about juniper hill so i do think i'll give it a try!
