To put it simply, this was fucking awesome.

To put it another way, this is by far one of the strongest trilogies I’ve ever read in terms of quality and consistency. Every book I’m amazed to see how much character development and engaging plot Abercrombie is able to squeeze in. At how Abercrombie takes tropes and completely turn them on their head with ease. I think the comparisons to ASOIAF are completely valid in terms of writing and the explorations of darker, morally grey characters. Although, I still prefer the larger scope and overall stronger POV characters of Martin. This may change of course, there are about 5 more novels in this series that I’ll have to work my way through but Joe has easily become one of my favorite authors in SFF.
