That April in Santa Monica by Melody DeBlois

4.0

"That April in Santa Monica" by Melody DeBlois is a breath of fresh air. The book follows the journey of workaholic Madison, who has to make some serious lifestyle changes. Her path crosses with Brandon, an established teacher in Yoga who helps people take charge of their health. Both characters are well developed with flaws that instantly made them very relatable. The slow build-up of their chemistry and their growth is well written and heartfelt. Their flashbacks that reflect the past are seamlessly integrated into the book. The supporting characters are mirrors that provide that additional lens to get to know the protagonists better. I was rooting for Madison and Brandon all the way, though there were times that I was frustrated with them. It's a memorable multi-layered book that covers relationships, family, vulnerability and trust. I look forward to reading more of Melody's books who writes so beautifully, luring the reader in with her descriptive words. I truly enjoyed my mini-vacation in SoCal in my mind. A 4.5 star read!
