A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
5.0
Sarah J. Maas once again proves she is a master of storytelling. Trying to write down my thoughts about this book immediately after finishing it was so difficult: I had no words.
I don't think I've reacted to a book this much in a while. Usually while in public I can keep my reactions minimal or completely internal, but there was no way I could hide what this book made me feel! Mass had me smiling until my cheeks burned in the middle of Costa and gasping in the library when I shouldn't have.
I can't believe she bamboozled me like that about you-know-what-and-who. I truly did not see all those curveballs she thew at me; they all hit me right in the centre of my face. This book was a total rollercoaster. In some books, the drama feels forced as a way to beef up the word count or pad the story out, but I believed all. It felt organic and real, not forced into the narrative.
The writing, although including a couple of clichés, was fresh and beautiful. I used a lot of tabs to mark some of the absolutely stunning sentences she wrote! And the images she paints are otherworldly. Mass really has an uncanny way of painting everything before your eyes in such vivid detail, but in a way that isn't dreary or bogged down with description.
This book is truly a masterpiece.
