See, Salvatore has these dull plots with decent enough adventure hooks that are middling, and he has hard to parse swordfights, and you'll be thinking of quitting...
And then he'll spend 20 pages on a brilliantly paced attack on a small cabin by ogres, and the way our heroes intervene! And it's great!
This installment wraps up the Wulfgar arc decently well. Not as sublime as the previous book, but I enjoyed a mystery about one character's motivations. There's some fun beats with characters misplacing each other. A minor character from earlier episodes gets a well earned win here, in a support role. I was surprised at one part where a female character wasn't killed as motivation for a protagonist. Good job, Salvatore.
Ultimately I didn't feel it brought enough new to the world or series. The resolution was satisfying and emotional, having read the rest of these books. The plot was just a bit too narrow.
