This sapphic book from childhood friends to lovers, creative zombie-hunting [immersed in exploring the impact of racism and trauma] is the best book I've read this month.
The Bronx has been plagued by mysterious disappearances for over a year. When Raquel’s crush Charlize’s cousin goes missing, they team up to investigate.
The first chapter is engaging and compelling; a paranoid boy escaping from something dangerous, all while dying? Give me more.
I really enjoyed this book. It tackles deep real life issues, using monsters, dangerous creatures, and internet challenges.
The writing really built the suspense and atmosphere. Everything came alive, making the Echo setting distressing and creepy. I could picture everything clearly.
The world building was not really explained, but as the story progressed I became invested and obsessed in the story.
All in all, this book was wonderful.
Cw : gore, violence, racism, gun use, police brutality, discussion of cannibalism, fire injuries/burns.
Rep: Afro Dominican American sapphic mc, Black sapphic li, Black side characters
