Let me start by saying I feel like HOFAS is a 5⭐️ book IF more questions are answered in future books. I think I’m a little worried because HOFAS wrapped up as a “happy ending” in a lot of ways, but I am left feeling like many things still need to come together. I also wanted an epic romance, and I don’t think this book delivered that for me.
I am still gathering my thoughts, but here are the immediate things floating around in my mind:
1. Why do Ruhn and Rhys look alike!?I guess because they’re distant cousins, but I wanted more of a big reveal.
2. Who/what are Fury and Amren?
3. I wanted more from Bryce’s and Hunt’s relationship… They just kept seeming like they weren’t on the same page and I was having a hard time rooting for them.
4. Am I the only one who thought there was a lot of foreshadowing for Bryce and Az? 🙈 I could write a thesis on the foreshadowing I picked up on (and I didn’t go into HOFAS believing this theory). I know SJM confirmed Bryce/Hunt, but something seems off to me. Could Hunt be her Carranam (like from ToG)? Maybe I’m just making something out of nothing because I was struggling to like Hunt/Bryce as mates in this book. 🤷🏼♀️
5. Where did Az get truth-teller?
6. Why are there so many mentions to stags/shifters (like in ToG)? Is Lidia connected to Aelin in some way? 👀
7. What’s up with Hel? I feel like we need more info. about all of them. And where are the other Hel princes? Is Hunt completely free from them?
8. What was up with the wyrm eating Nesta’s magic?
9. Is the Asteri really gone? If so, that feels a little anticlimactic because I thought some characters from different worlds would need to come in to help finally defeat them… And what about the cauldron being the “off” switch to Prythian?
10. Are the Asteri the same as the Valg (in ToG)?
11. What’s up with the Thurr thing?
12. What ever happened to Viktoria!?
13. Did anyone else feel like Tharion and Ithan were kinda whiny and out of character? 🙈 And what’s going to happen with Sathia, Perry, Sigrid, Ariadne, Hypaxia/Celestina?
14. What does the eight pointed star even mean?
15. SJM can’t keep killing characters and bringing them back to life… It’s taking away the high-stakes and is becoming too predictable 😭
16. What’s up with the Autumn King’s devices/notebooks/research?
Overall, there were soooo many moments I adored in this book (every scene with Nesta and Ruhn/Lidia), and I had such a good time being sucked into this world again! Ember and Nesta together and Lidia with her kids = 🥹
I think if there wasn’t a crossover, I would have been happy with how HOFAS wrapped up. Because there was a crossover, I was just expecting more of the characters from all worlds to be involved with defeating the Asteri over the course of a few books.
In an interview, SJM said, “By the end of this book, you get the full extent of how these worlds connect to each other. As for how that will play out in future books across my various series, we shall see."
I don’t think we got “the full extent”, but I’m hopeful to see how this all plays out in future books!
