Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan

4.0

I really liked this, it was small but powerful. Right from the beginning this had a really heartfelt and warm feel to it, the mundane was described in a way that felt so comfortable and familiar that it made me feel warm. There was something about the delicacy in the manner Keegan writes that I really enjoyed. She managed to convey so much with so little.

This small story felt so incredibly human and tender, I really enjoyed the reflective simple nature of it. I think Furlong’s story was fascinating and it was interesting to watch him reflect on his past while dwelling about his present and how the future might play out. He was a kind of quiet hero here. I think his humble nature and his delicacy towards others was really beautiful to witness. The topics of religion and morality really come into play here as well.

I wish this was a longer one. I was left with a lot of thoughts and even more questions, but I think in that respect it had its intended effect. Really good.
