2.75
2.75 🌟🌟 🔅 . Look, it's not that it was not good.... it was just....sooooo repetitive and predictable with an annoying main lead
This is a very good example of a book that starts off "eh" 🥱, gets you intrigued 🤨, then things pick up with the enemies trying to kill each other 🗡🗡⚔️ and now the enemies are kinda lovers ♥️♥️ but the overall story is more interesting than them because their romance is bland
I'm sensing a Betrayal
Let's see
Aaaand here it is 🙄🙄

⚜ POV: first person multiple
⚜ spice: just kissing and touching
⚜standalone: no, part of a trilogy i think
⚜Ending: cliffhanger
⚜Book read: tandem audio and physical
The fact that I did not annotate any page speaks volumes.
It's not that the story was not entertaining,... it was. And I loved listening to the native narrator. The accent is enchanting and brought out most of the story
So what went wrong?
predictable storyline
If someone asked me "What is this book about?" and I said " so there is this kingdom. The king forbade all magic and magic wielders...and..."
They'll interrupt me saying "Let me guess Magic is bad. Let's kill all magic ppl and ban magic. But there is a girl who harbors magical power that suddenly appears. The prince is after her but they fall in love however he does something terrible and she wants revenge 🙄🙄"
Annoying characters
I did not like Zelie at all. She got on my nerves all the time. That girl has a mommy/daddy/brother issues. I know that good characters have flaws, but irritating should not be one of them.
She, how many times, prays to the gods "if someone is out there, if someone can hear me, if someone cares about me" then when they do come true for her, she doubts!!! Girl, please!
And that Kaea!! God! I was praying that Inan would kill her. Thank God.
Tzain is a self-righteous idealist. He permits himself to do what he forbids for his sister. He is a verbal abuser and I put those in the same category as physical abusers.
Inan is a Daddy's boy.
The only character I liked was Amari.
The Romance
Let's rush the enemies to the lovers stage because we want the betrayal to be hard. GIVE ME A BREAK.
There was no time for Zelie to trust Inan that fast!!!
Overall, I felt like this was a mapped out same ol same ol but let's make it African.
I have to give it to the audio book narrator though. She did an amazing job. If it wasn't for her, I would have DNFed the book.
Let's see how this book differed from other
