City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare
3.0
Well, shoot. Me and this book didn’t mesh. I just felt like it was missing that Mortal Instruments charm.
The storyline was good. I think it dragged for a good 150 pages. However, when things went down, THINGS WENT DOWN. I have noticed that in the second half of The Mortal Instruments series, things tend to drag. I liked the conclusion to the Sebastian storyline, and how the Blackthorns were introduced. I thought that the plot there was really good. There are some characters that deserved more page time than they got *cough* Luke, Jocelyn, Maia *cough*, but I understand that there are quite a few MCs to follow.I would describe the concluding book to be almost satisfactory. I needed to know more about Simon! Anyways, the plot was good, just a tad bit slow for my liking.
Jace and Clary. What is TMI without Clace angst? Nothing. Just kidding! Jace and Clary’s relationship just seemed so strong in this book and I loved it. Thanks for the cave scene, Cassie.
MALEC MALEC!!! The stars of the book. My sweet, amazing, show-stopping characters. Their relationship is EVERYTHING. It’s my favorite relationship in the series. It was so important to see Alec and Magnus’s development in this book. I stan. I really do. They are perfect.
SIMON. Dang. He’s been through it. Like, poor kid. I’m so glad I ended up loving him because he is such a great friend, person, and a courageous fighter. He deserved BETTER. Period.
