"claim the stars..."
very YA. huge sanderson fan, have literally read more book from him than nearly any author (fucking crazy, right?) but, as much as i usually like his stuff, skyward wasn't quite my tempo. which is weird because more than ever i'm primped for a 'top gun' like novel but this was not that, at least it wasn't as fun as that.
some gripes:
- the flight school scenes got to be really repetitive and tedious. i'd say "that's just how training scenarios in YA goes!" but no...i've read plenty of other YA books that were more engaging in this aspect.
- for being one of his shorter books, i found the pacing to be weirdly slow?
some pros:
- cool characters for the most part
- genuine stakes
will probably start the next one soonish. i may not like the series that much yet but at least its short. i'm always saying that if you're going to be bad or mediocre, the least you could do is be brief. and these are that. here's hoping i enjoy starsight more!
