Death Note: Another Note - The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases by NISIOISIN

5.0

The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases.
L.A.B.B.——L is After Beyond Birthday.

A thrilling prequel that delves into the enigmatic backstory of L and his encounter with the psychopathic killer, Beyond Birthday. The narrative is gripping, with its dark and mysterious atmosphere capturing the essence of the original "Death Note" series. The psychological cat-and-mouse game between L and Beyond Birthday keeps you on the edge of your seat, showcasing the intellectual prowess and deductive skills required of Misora (L's agent/blade/shield) is refreshing, and brings to light how complicated certain of the puzzles were (I did struggle a bit to understand some of them but after a few rereads and drawing a diagram they made sense). The book uses the literary medium exceptionally well, especially in terms of setting up and paying off a certain twist that left me stunned. However, while the book adds depth to L's character and provides an intriguing side story, it can be somewhat convoluted and might leave readers craving more context or connection to the main "Death Note" storyline. Overall, it’s a must-read for fans who are eager to explore more of L’s mysterious past and the intricacies of his mind.
