One of the best books I've ever read, genuinely helped me shift how I percieve my relationships with other people. And also, the way Bernadine Evaristo discusses Trans people (and the things she implies about Trans Non-Binary people in a book about women) is not the best. It seems to me she had the ability to make a larger statement about Trans people's experiences in relationship to other identities (including Women), and yet she fumbles it pretty hard to the point I'm unsure of what her perspective actually is (considering her own perspective does come through every character).
I do agree that Evaristo writes the older characters with slightly more nuance than the younger ones, however I'm willing to let the slight caracature-ness slide considering I learned something about myself (a young person) through it.
