Waking Olivia: A College Sports Romance by Elizabeth O'Roark, Elizabeth O'Roark
5.0
I picked this up because my dear friend Michele told me this contained the words: teacher, student, coach, taboo and I honestly almost quit my job to sit down and read this immediately.
If you know me, then you know my obsession's with teacher-student tropes. I was expecting a quick, kinky read and I got a masterpiece instead.
I have never seen an author use her words with SO MUCH intention. Her chapters are quick but deadly. I swear. This is one of the best writing I have seen in a while. It was enough for me to read two more books she wrote in a row because I feel like I can't get enough of her voice.
The character development is meticulously controlled, her dialogues are breathtaking, she does not over extend characters internal dialogues and she also doesn't waste time on unnecessary world building. It is honestly a dream come true.
She will make you gasp at the end of every chapter like you're watching a spanish telenovela
(I am south american so I can make this joke without sounding like an asshole ok) and she will do that with WORDS alone. Her sentences are SO IMPACTFUL, I nearly found myself highlighting this entire book on my kindle.
Dual M/F pov, a troubled young athlete finds herself wishing she could f*ck the shit out of her coach. (don't blame her) Will is absolutely incredible. He will help her figure out what happened to her in her very traumatic past and they find themselves more and more in synch with one another.
Elizabeth is a master at storytelling. This book was more of a slow burn but even her sexual scenes delivered everything they were supposed to. I will recommend her to every single person I know from now on.
