Factfulness: Ten Reasons We're Wrong About the World – and Why Things Are Better Than You Think by Hans Rosling

5.0

I read this book over the summer, and I’ve got to say, it was unputdownable. It’s one of the best books I read. I love the way it is written, and the way the authors presented their findings.

It is divided into 10 chapters that talk about 10 instincts that stop us from seeing the world factually. It gives us a true insight into what is actually getting better in our world, and how we should be looking at the statistics that are thrown at us. It teaches how to look at events in a smart way, how to analyze information, and how to understand trends. It also acknowledges the fact that there are certain things getting worse but we often see a blown over version of anything that may be occurring in the world.

The book looks at the media and the news and the ways in which they play with our instincts and emotions. It portrays the overrepresentation of issues that rarely occur, and the underrepresentation of things that actually matter.

It builds a framework for how to think about the world. It asserts that the world can be both bad and better. I loved it from cover to cover and I want to read it again.
