The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri

2.0

I feel like I should have loved this but it was actually a bit of a slog to get through. I don’t quite know what caused my reservations. Though the prose is beautiful, it lacked something that would pull me in fully. There was a chasm between what I was told was romance and what I actually experienced.

Perhaps it would have been more effective if Priya and Malini’s stories had been told separately, explored in more depth as one powerful, determined woman per book and not interspersed like they were. I just got…bored. Sad but unavoidable when you find yourself skimming passages.

This is a rich and interesting world but I don’t think it was done enough justice.
