Richard III by William Shakespeare
5.0
Though I am slightly biased, having portrayed Richard, Shakespeare's brilliant (though historically dubious) retelling of the wretched, conniving, evil Duke of Gloucester who by "prophesies, libels, and dreams..." secures the throne of England, only to lose it to Henry Tudor, the Earl of Richmond, is a spectacular play. Beautifully evil verse, a smattering of ironic humor, convincingly conflicted accomplices, and an altogether despicable yet deceptively eloquent villain make for one of my favorite Shakespeare plays thus far. I'll be quoting it for months. Hats off to my wonderful fellow cast members, thanks for such a great BYS season!
