this was..... this was. the wildest book i've read in a very, very long time

i don't know if i can truly rate it in good conscience. for most of the book i was going to rate it three stars, a star docked for gratuitous punchy dialogue i didn't like and weird pop culture references that didn't fit. there is a reference to the simpsons in a very serious moment that completely ruins the tone of the scene!!

and yet.

i feel like you should go into it with little knowledge of what it is, because that's what i did, but i also absolutely cannot tell anyone to do that. so. live your life.

you know how you're like 15 and getting mortified checking out books from the library because you don't want anyone to know you have shit taste but who ELSE other than a teenager with tiny thick oval glasses and long unstyled homeschool hair is gonna check out darth maul: shadow hunter, not realizing it IS a horror book and you read it in your room absolutely GLUED to the pages, filled with nothing but absolute dread by the end because you realized where it was going, but desperate to finish anyway? you know that feeling?
