Pawcasso by Remy Lai
4.0
Thank you to MacMillan Children’s/Henry Holt for Remy Lai’s third graphic novel!
What I loved: the inclusive characters, the uniqueness of the title character and how the community was drawn to him, the changes the characters undergo, and the humor! The variety of ways the author chose to draw eyes was interesting and compelling. The pace was fast and I couldn’t put it down. The community division was a microcosm of the world today: people not listening to others’ perspectives. Finally, the way Lai created Jo’s big problem: they understood - the whole time - that what they were doing was not okay. Helps kids understand that a small lie can snowball into a huge situation!
What I noticed: the anxious expressions were a little repetitive.
Who will love this book? Middle graders of all ages who love dogs and humor will DEVOUR it! Definitely add it to your library! Remy Lai does it again!
