Sunny is the third book in Jason Reynolds’ Track series. Sunny is a sweet, if not aloof kid in the first two books. In his story, we see a boy whose birthday has never been celebrated because his mother died giving birth. He calls his father by his first name and they sit in silence doing puzzles, eating, and just existing. Sunny uses his journal to express what he can’t say out loud. Reynolds has created such a Quirky voice with Sunny.
As each of its predecessors, the reader learns about the heartbreaks and failures felt by this character.
