It's really weird to think of this as YA because it's taking risks that you wouldn't even really see in literary fic.
I was mostly brought into reading this because the negative reviews were so over the top. How dare it have such content. How dare there be problematic elements. I wanted to see how it was handled and form my own opinions and I'm not really seeing the glorification that other people were getting. There's a level of tragedy to it and no clear cut answers. I'm suitably impressed to find that in YA.
My main beef here is that the characterization with our main two is very uneven. I feel like I know Lochan pretty well. I know his emotional turmoil, I know what he sees in Maya, I see who he is. But Maya? I feel like she's done a bit dirty. Either give her more depth or skip using her as a POV character.
