Having watched the movie, I didn't expect to be moved to tears again while reading the book. But, to my surprise, the book evoked even deeper emotions, leaving me in a mess of ugly tears.
What fascinated me the most about the book was how it showed Ove's grumpy side alongside moments that revealed his true self. "But he wasn’t bloody bitter. He just didn’t go around grinning the whole time." Ove's seriousness is unwavering, yet his intentions are never malicious. Additionally, delving into Ove's childhood sheds light on the origins of his personality traits.
"And it wasn’t as if Ove also died when Sonja left him. He just stopped living." This quote really hit home for me, stirring up a lot of feelings. It got me thinking about just how lonely Ove must have felt after Sonja passed away.
Just like I expected from Fredrik Backman, this book is really well-written. It's so good at making you feel things as you read. And besides telling a great story, Backman teaches some important lessons too. I absolutely love this book and give it a solid five stars.
