Understanding How the Future Unfolds: Using DRIVE to Harness the Power of Today's Megatrends by Mark Esposito, Terence C.M. Tse
5.0
1/2 a star extra bias cos i adore these guys :D
D.R.I.V.E to Better Understand Today’s Megatrends
READERS, trust me on this one. Keep these two names in mind: Dr Mark Esposito and Dr Terence Tse. Nominated for Thinkers’ 50 2017, these world-renowned professors have been on the up-and-up with their research especially in the past couple of years. The best thing about them though is that though they are intelligent, they are down-to-earth too. Having sat in on one of their sessions, not only did I learn a lot but the respect and camaraderie between the two is obvious.
Now this book is their first together, derived from an idea when they were in Singapore a couple of years ago. The authors feel that planning and preparing ahead leads to business success. Sounds logical but this is where many leaders go wrong and that is how a bigger force has come in to rock the economy today and they are none other than the group that falls under the megatrends.
One way to stay ahead and plan for tomorrow is to tap on the DRIVE framework which breaks the megatrends down into five steps:
Demographic and social changes,
Resource scarcity,
Inequalities,
Volatility, complexity, and scale, and
Enterprising dynamics.
I enjoyed every single page, not because I adore the authors but because it is a page-turner. Having sat through their masterclass where they introduced DRIVE, I managed to get snippets of what DRIVE is all about and what these two world-renowned scholars are trying to achieve. It is a book that makes you think of your business from a different perspective yet does not come across as being overly academic or oversimplistic. The writers have found the right balance. If you have read their earlier contributions to Today’s Manager, you will know exactly what I mean.
