Where There's a Will by Jessie Walker

4.0

4.5/5. I really, really enjoyed this book. I love Will. He's sad and broken, but he's trying. He's kind and understanding, which is more than I can say I'd be in his shoes. He's also loyal and he doesn't give up. Waylon is just as great. He's a saddie for sure, but it's definitely warranted. He's hurting so he lashes out, especially at Will, but as the story goes on, his actions make sense. He's also kind and desperate for love. They really do compliment each other well when they aren't at each other's throats.

I love that they were childhood best friends and felt this connection even at a young age. The circumstances were stacked against them from the jump, and yet they keep finding their way back. I love watching Way attempt to accept his sexuality and attraction to Will, all while Will is so patient and understanding. I love that Will is confident in who he is and doesn't shy away from letting it known he's gay even though the town is small and it may not go over well.

Both men have their own problems, which are compelling as well. Their friend group is a mess as they're all struggling with something. It seems if something bad can happen, it will happen to someone in this crew. However, despite the fragility of each individual, they work together and support each other as best they can and that's wonderful to see.

Overall, this is a heartbreaking love story that ends on a cliffhanger. I'm eager to read the next one. 2/5 spice levels.
