The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory

The sweetest romance novel I have ever read. I've waited for a novel that features a Black woman as the main character whose love story is not one that is built on a foundation of trauma, nor is she hypersexualized. Her body (more specifically her curves) is a discussion point at several times, but it is done respectfully.
Drew and Alexa's love story is exactly the "meet cute" type of romance that Black women deserve. While it may get repetitive; to me, that was exactly the point. So often, Black women do not get to be the leading ladies of these books, and in romantic pursuits they are often ignored in best case scenarios and slandered at worst.
Race plays a major part in several scenes, and what I enjoyed was that Drew (a white man) realizes his very real privilege in contrast to his girlfriend. We examine his perspective from his inner monologue and his occasional surprise, but he never tries to correct her or speak over her.
Overall, this was a fun and light read that kept me smiling fro beginning to end.
