Overall, I ended up really enjoying this book. As with the other books in the series...it's not without some faults. My two main hang-ups after everything are that 1) it felt like the story should've taken place over a longer period of time, and 2) the whole Lauren wanting to getting artificially inseminated didn't stack up.
At first I really had an issue with the reason Mike ended up breaking things off with Lauren the first time. After some thinking, I was able to get myself around to HIS way of thinking...even though I still didn't agree with him. Lauren was a character that had only been briefly mentioned in the prior books and only in such a way that made me have zero interest in her. Once we got to know her more, I came around quickly and was heartbroken for her when Mike left and understood her behavior of two years later.
The story feeling like it needed more time and also the Lauren baby thing go hand in hand. Mike not only broke Lauren's heart, he mushed it into pulp. HE knows that and is willing to take whatever time he has to to win her back. There were quite a few times when he was about to say or do something and I was thinking, "ugh fuck this guy" and then he'd make the last minute save and win me over instead.
I liked them both separately and I believed they loved each other but I honestly questioned whether that would be enough for MUCH of this book. Lauren truly seemed to have no interest in accepting that Mike would be allowed back into her life. The biggest example of this is that she'd decided prior to reconnecting with him that she wanted to be a mother and wasn't going to wait around to meet someone to make that happen. She truly seemed to have grown and loved the life she had after their break-up even if she still felt the loneliness. She had an endo, an appt, and ordered up her sperm donor. Reconnecting with Mike at no point made her stop and go....huh, maybe I should see where this is going before I get pregnant by a sperm donor.
Mike was ready to win her back, but once he found out about her plans, knew he had to speed everything up. I've read a few reviews that said he offered to be her sperm donor and was using that as a way to trick her into getting back together with her. COULDN'T BE MORE WRONG. The guy loved her and was upfront about wanting her back from the beginning. He was 100% onboard. No tricks, no sperm donor. If she wanted a baby, then he wanted to be the one to give that to her along with himself and a family. I might not have loved the storyline in general, but it wasn't anything shady or gross. The fact that she never even reconsidered using a sperm donor is what kept tripping me up and I felt like she needed more time to trust him again. It was clear she still loved him.
Even with those issues, I still really enjoyed the book. It made me laugh and smile, I truly liked the two main characters and I really love this world and the whole team.
