Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente
5.0
Everything I didn't know I wanted in a book: pop culture criticism, existential angst, interspecies bonking, and a paean to the virtues of rocking and rolling in the face of repression. Beautifully written and politically spot-on--and if the conclusion is perhaps too deus-ex-machina, how can you critique the unrealistic ending of a tale featuring sentient gas clouds all named Ursula?
