Phantom Limbs by Paula Garner
5.0
Oh my goodness, I am veritably DROWNING in tears. I loved the push and pull between Meg and Dana over Otis, despite their drastically different relationships with him. Also, can we take a moment to appreciate the endearing, earnest specimen named Otis Muller? SWOON. Otis is such a loveable protagonist. He's charming and has absolutely no idea how cute he is. The girls are going to eat him alive one day.
The supporting characters like Kiera and Abby are so well-developed, too. Huge fan hearing their perspectives and understanding their struggles. I'm sure there are going to be a thousand Kiera's out there some day.
The mystery of Mason unfolded perfectly. There was a lot of foreshadowing based on the "triggers," yet it was all so subtle. I didn't know what was going to happen until it was explained to the reader.
I also loved Otis's reactions in Michigan. Oh dear, he read situations so horribly incorrectly. But when he knew something was wrong? His gut instinct was spot on, and he did exactly the right thing. There's a chance he could've seemed crazy, but it was all just a testament to how clearly Otis KNEW Dara.
This book was immensely tragic and beautiful. I loved the hallmark moments and the deep points of introspection and pain.
