The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
5.0
I've been sitting on this review for a while because I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted to say about this book. I think I might have finally figured it out.
For the majority of this book, I planned to rate it around three stars. I was enjoying it for the most part, but it seemed a little too wandering and disjointed for my tastes. Aside from the romantic aspect, there didn't really seem to be much plot to the book. Then you get to the end, and then I reached the afterword and it all came together.
This is a book about finding yourself. About being a teenager, and not always knowing who you are or who you want to be. About not always knowing what's going on, or where you're going. It's about growing and discovering and healing. Life isn't all feel-good moments, but that doesn't mean they can't happen in between the hurting and the awkwardness.
It's a book about friendship, about finding friends and being there for them. About having arguments and about being able to come back together after conflict.
This is a book I wish I'd had in high school, because it really would have helped me in a lot of ways. Not to say I had the same experiences as Charlie, but some of the things that happened to me were similar enough.
