This world is a very unique twist to your typical medieval era. I really enjoyed how different it felt from other books that I have read. 

I agree with all of the negative reviews that are based on the fact that slavery and rape isn’t sexy, but I do not think those aspects were MEANT to be sexy in this book.

Yes, I 100% think that the two princes will develop a relationship in later books, but that did not happen in this one while he was still purely a slave.

This one was all about Damen struggling with his newfound place in life, him trying to figure out what exactly was going on with Laurent, and him trying to protect the other slaves from mistreatment and navigate the perils of this new court. The “romantic” relationship was not at all the focus in this book.
