American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins

4/5 stars. Audiobook. I really enjoyed the book, but not all of the controversy around it when it was added to Oprah’s Book Club. I am not sure why the world takes such offense with someone telling a story. I will never understand. Preposterous. The novel is certainly not “’A Grapes of Wrath’ for our times”, but it is a realistic story from my perspective and I minored in Spanish Literature in college. No one wants to acknowledge that it could be right because a white woman wrote it. Telling stories is not exclusive to the ethnicity in which you belong. It is for any and everybody. The characters and story are moving and well-paced. I would recommend this book to others.
